Couples Counseling Worcester MA: Hello, Love
Loved ones taking time to intentionally connect at Couples Counseling Worcester MA
The theme of intentionality has been coming up often in my work with clients at Couples Counseling Worcester, MA—as well as in my own life. I’ve realized that if I’m not intentional in my relationships, they can take on a life of their own... or no life at all. When we operate on autopilot and just drift, we may unknowingly steer our relationships onto a dangerous course—simply because we don’t know what direction we’re headed.
One way to switch off autopilot is by focusing on small, everyday moments in our relationships—like how we greet our loved ones.
A greeting might seem simple, but it sets the tone for the rest of your time together.
It can either soothe the nervous system like a balm, or keep it in a revved up state. The next time you greet someone important in your life, take a moment to notice how you're engaging. Are you open and inviting? Are you taking an intentional pause to set aside exhaustion, worry, complaints, or your to-do list?
Consider slowing down just enough to really see your loved one.
Maybe it's a warm embrace, eye contact, or stopping what you’re doing—even just for a second.
Reflect on how you tend to greet your partner at the end of the day. Do you immediately start sharing information, jumping into a task, or voicing a worry or complaint? Do you offer a quick hello, but without truly tuning in—even for that one moment?
If so, imagine what it could feel like to greet your loved one in a fully intentional way, where both of you feel seen, even if only for a brief moment. That kind of moment can be incredibly powerful.
